Harvested from Jungpana Estate Tea Garden in Darjeeling, India.

Freshly plucked by hand on April 5th, 2017.

Lovers of the leaf, rejoice! The dormancy period is over and the Darjeeling hillsides are radiant with young, fragrant leaves. Rich in flavor, these prized leaves steep a delicate cup, sure to delight the senses.

We are excited to bring you this year’s first spring leaves from Jungpana Estate Tea Garden, known as "an island in the mountains." This prestigious garden is located along the southern facing slopes of South Kurseong at an altitude of 4,000 feet.

We selected this tea on site and air freighted it to ensure the freshest tea possible. Regarded as the ultimate tea experience, only limited quantities are available.

Water and Nature

The Jungpana Tea Estate, known for its high quality, is protected by nature. The gardens and trails were devastated by landslides in 1993, but access to the estate has been restored through mule trails, across wooden bridges and up a narrow flight of 638 stairs. The garden, first planted in 1899 by Henry Montgomery Lennox, is 100% China jat. This first flush boasts a light liquor with a beautiful sweet, slightly muscatel character that gives way to a uniquely floral, aromatic tea.

The Gallery Collection Artwork

Each year, our limited edition First Spring Darjeeling tea label features original artwork that captures the essence of this rare harvest. This year’s artwork was created by our Minister of Creativity, Gina Amador, to commemorate The Republic of Tea's 25th Anniversary. This is the fifteenth in the Darjeeling Art Collectors' series.

This pure, 100% Darjeeling tea is certified by the Tea Board of India.

More About This Product

Black Tea has less than half the amount of caffeine per cup than in a similar-sized cup of coffee. More about caffeine.

1. Fill the kettle with fresh, filtered water and heat to boiling. Let cool for 2 minutes.
2. Warm the teapot by swirling steamy water in it and then pour it out.
3. Place one teaspoon of tea leaves into your pot or infusing basket.
4. Pour 6 oz of water per serving over the tea leaves and infuse for three to five minutes. Experiment to find your favored steeping time.
5. Serve the tea. Avoid letting the leaves stew. Enjoy hot or let cool completely and pour over a generous amount of ice.
6. Add the used tea leaves to your garden. They make a healthy fertilizer for flowering plants.

I have been tasting the New Darjeling for the past 4 years. I always appreciate the unique flavor each year. But this year is simply the best. My 1st pot was perfect. It is a full mouth flavor almost like cocoa. I wonder how it will be for iced Tea tomorrow.

This beautiful, delicate tea is so delicious. I usually drink the biodynamic organic Darjeeling, but couldn't resist the freshness of these loose leaves, and just had to try. Subtle as Darjeeling is, there is so much dimension to these flavors, from fruit to spices to its lovely light flower scent. It's truly a sensory experience. Recommend this fresh picked blend to anyone who loves Darjeeling tea.
