Lovers of the leaf, rejoice! The dormancy period is over and the Darjeeling hillsides are radiant with young, fragrant leaves. Rich in flavor, these prized Biodynamic® and Organic certified leaves steep a delicate cup, sure to delight the senses.
We are excited to bring you this year’s first spring leaves from Selimbong Tea Garden in Rongbong Valley in Northern India. This prestigious Biodynamic® garden is located along the valley’s hillside with altitudes ranging from 3,600 to 5,570 ft. Selimbong has been awarded the prestigious Tea Board of India Award for Quality. We selected this tea on site and had it air freighted to ensure the freshest tea possible. Regarded as the ultimate tea experience, limited quantities are available.
Large silver tips and abundant verdant leaves steep a smooth amber cup with very little astringency and a floral hint on the top note.
Each year, our limited edition First Spring Darjeeling tea label features original artwork that captures the essence of this rare harvest. This year’s selection is from our citizen social media art contest chosen from multiple entries. This artwork was created by artist Norah Schoenfarber. It is the thirteenth in a series from our Tea Gallery Collection.
This pure, 100% Darjeeling tea is certified by the Tea Board of India.
More About This Product
Black Tea has less than half the amount of caffeine per cup than in a similar-sized cup of coffee. More about caffeine.
1. Fill the kettle with fresh, filtered water and heat to just short of boiling.
2. Warm the teapot by swirling steamy water in it and then pour it out.
3. Place one teaspoon of tea leaves into your pot or infusing basket.
4. Pour 6 oz of water per serving over the tea leaves and infuse for three to five minutes. Experiment to find your favored steeping time.
5. Serve the tea. Avoid letting the leaves stew. Enjoy hot or let cool completely and pour over a generous amount of ice.
6. Add the used tea leaves to your garden. They make a healthy fertilizer for flowering plants.

Satisfying Darjeeling first flush
This was my second year to try the first flush Darjeeling that Republic brings out in the spring season. The price is substantially higher than typical Republic offerings, but the quality of the first flushes has been excellent in both years. This is a delicate and complex flavored tea that brews to a golden color and the slightly sweet flavor lingers after drinking. I have tried reusing leaves for a second brew, but that comes out far too weak for my taste. Despite that, I realize that good Darjeeling teas can be extremely expensive, so I appreciate the reasonable price point that ROT provides on this excellent selection. This tea has far more flavor than a regular Darjeeling loose tea bought in supermarkets, and it is definitely worth a try.
Not Worth The Price
I was so disappointed in this tea. I've tried a lot of darjeelings, and this is the lowest quality I've ever tasted. I'll go back to purchasing mine elsewhere.
Biodynamic First Flush Darjeeling
I just tried this tea at my Mom's Group and I, actually all of us, found it to be delicious and full bodied without being bitter. Will definitely be ordering more! And...we LOVE LOVE LOVE the art on the can...really whimsical and happy.
This tea is delightful and soothing. The amber color is gorgeous, and the floral and grassy notes are perfect. I've learned to brew by color, and this prevents any chance of bitterness. The artwork on the can is outstanding. This one is a keeper.
I recently recieved a 2013 first first flush darjeeling tea as a gift and fell in love. Then ordered 2 more tins of the 2014. Slightly different but both utterly heavenly. I make iced tea out it. Absolutely nothing better than a glass of iced First Flush Darjeeling tea on a warm day. Heavenly! I am so spoiled now!
