Additional Details

Lovers of the leaf, rejoice!

The dormancy period is over and the Darjeeling hillsides are radiant with young, fragrant leaves. This year’s outstanding tea was carefully selected from the famed Selimbong Tea Garden which dates back to 1866 and borders the Sukhia Forest Reserve. A very special variety of China bush grows in altitudes ranging from 1,100m 1,700m which contributes a unique flavor.

We selected this tea on site and air freighted it to ensure the freshest tea possible. Regarded as the ultimate tea experience, only limited quantities are available.

This first flush, or first plucking of spring, exhibits fresh, evenly sized, well-twisted, greenish colored leaves with a fair show of silver tips. The bright yellow-green infusion has a fresh aroma with a fruity flavor that hints of peach and apricot nectar.

Tea Gallery Collection: The artwork created by artist Maggie Hibert, honors the Women of Tea who make this tea possible. Check our website for more information on our Women of Tea Program

This is the seventeenth in the Darjeeling Art Collector's Series.

Black Tea has less than half the amount of caffeine per cup than in a similar-sized cup of coffee. More about caffeine.

Steeping Instructions

Steeping black tea is easy. Simply heat fresh, filtered water to a rolling boil. Then pour water over tea and steep for 3-5 minutes if using a tea bag or full-leaf.

This first flush Darjeeling is very good. It is light and tasty, with the delicious uniqueness that only Darjeeling can deliver. I also like the stronger flavor of the Darjeeling picked later in the season. The quality Darjeeling from Republic of Tea has never disappointed me.

Exceptional tea! Well with the additional cost. Robust, yet not overpowering, great bouquet and flavor . I mix measured a.ounts of loose leaf British Breakfast, Darjeeling and Oolong for my brew, love Republic's offerings!

It isn't what I expected for a black tea

Even though I know this is a black tea, my taste buds say it is a green tea, which I'm not fond of. I will drink it in the early afternoon instead of first thing in the morning and try to acquire a taste for it since it is supposedly a rare, fine tea. IF I liked green tea, I'm sure this would be a great tasting tea.

First flush Darjeeling continues to be my favorite. This year is from a new estate for me. I like it but not quite as much as last year’s Thurbo which remains my top choice. I always order enough to get me through until next spring.

I ordered 2 tins based on last year's limited edition Darjeeling tea. It's good tea but not as outstanding as the 2018 was. These limited edition Darjeeling teas are much more reminiscent of green than black tea.
