More About This Product

Lovers of the leaf, rejoice!

The dormancy period is over and the Darjeeling hillsides are radiant with young, fragrant leaves. This year’s outstanding tea was carefully selected from the famed Selimbong Tea Garden which dates back to 1866 and borders the Sukhia Forest Reserve. A very special variety of China bush grows in altitudes ranging from 1,100m 1,700m which contributes a unique flavor.

We selected this tea on site and air freighted it to ensure the freshest tea possible. Regarded as the ultimate tea experience, only limited quantities are available.

This first flush, or first plucking of spring, exhibits fresh, evenly sized, well-twisted, greenish colored leaves with a fair show of silver tips. The bright yellow-green infusion has a fresh aroma with a fruity flavor that hints of peach and apricot nectar.

Tea Gallery Collection: The artwork created by artist Maggie Hibert, honors the Women of Tea who make this tea possible. Check our website for more information on our Women of Tea Program

This is the seventeenth in the Darjeeling Art Collector's Series.

Caffeine

Black Tea has less than half the amount of caffeine per cup than in a similar-sized cup of coffee. More about caffeine.

Steeping Instructions

Steeping black tea is easy. Simply heat fresh, filtered water to a rolling boil. Then pour water over tea and steep for 3-5 minutes if using a tea bag or full-leaf.

I ordered 2 tins based on last year's limited edition Darjeeling tea. It's good tea but not as outstanding as the 2018 was. These limited edition Darjeeling teas are much more reminiscent of green than black tea.

This tea tastes very grassy, but not in a good way like green tea. I love Darjeeling tea, so thought this would be a good tea, but apparently the first flush in not the same at all. Perhaps it will grow on me.

I purchased the 2018 tea last year and could not wait to order again but had to wait a year. This was simply the best tea ever. Wendy

I really like this one! It's pale yellow, a delicate tea with a slight fruity (peach?) aftertaste. As with many teas, follow the instructions. If you stew the leaves too long it becomes bitter. The container says to bring water to boil, then let it cool 2 minutes and pour over leaves. I let mine sit for no more than 2 minutes after pouring. This seasonal tea is more expensive, but definitely worth it!
