flavors of bananas cooked in butter, rum and cinnamon, then topped with vanilla ice
cream, over a base of premium black tea and cacao.
In the process of crafting this collection, we meticulously taste tested cacao beans from around the world and at various roasting levels. We found that medium-roasted cacao from Nicaragua had the smooth, rich, chocolatey flavor we were searching for.
Our cacao beans are sustainably sourced from an organic farm in Nicaragua, where they are grown under safe and fair work conditions. We use the entire cacao bean (husk and nibs), which imparts additional flavor and antioxidants.
After finalizing our choice of cacao beans, we experimented with blending them with various black teas, and discovered that the layered chocolate and wine notes of China Keemun black tea matched best.
A touch of monk fruit adds natural sweetness that accentuates the flavors of the tea for a full dessert experience. Theo & Thea teas contain no added sugar, and are naturally low in calories and carbs for a guilt-free indulgence.
Because the cocoa butter is not separated out when processing cacao, a tiny bit makes its way into your cup. You may notice a small amount of oil at the surface of the steeped cup — this is part of what makes Theo & Thea teas so rich and decadent.
About Our Pyramid Tea Bags
Each tin of Theo & Thea tea contains 14 large, commercially compostable pyramid sachets. The sachets are made of BPA-free polylactic acid resin derived from renewable resources like corn starch or sugar cane. They are completely free of overwraps, tags, strings and staples.
Why have we opted for pyramid tea bags? They play an important role in making Theo & Thea our most deliciously rich and satisfying tea collection yet.
Pyramid tea bags deliver all the convenience of a traditional tea bag, with the premium quality and flavor of full-leaf loose tea.
These roomy pyramid-shaped sachets allow plenty of space for the whole tea leaves to unfurl and release their full flavor into the infusion. Additionally, the size of the tea bags accommodates a large quantity of whole cacao beans for a more intense taste.
As you pour hot water into the cup over the sachets, watch as the tea leaves expand and open. Theo & Thea teas require a steeping time of 7-10 minutes to get full extraction of the cacao beans.

Theobromine is a molecule that naturally exists in a variety of plants — most notably cacao. Its chemical structure is similar to that of caffeine, and it is considered to be a natural stimulant that may provide a boost of physical and mental energy.* Possible benefits of theobromine include enhanced cognitive function and mood, without the unwanted side effects caused by caffeine.*
Meet Thea: What Is L-theanine?
L-theanine is an amino acid that is found in certain plant species, including the tea plant Camellia sinensis. At realistic dietary doses, L-theanine may elevate serotonin, dopamine and GABA levels in the brain — neurotransmitters that play a role in regulating mood, emotions, sleep and cognition.* Green tea in particular contains high levels of L-theanine, so we have added organic green tea extract to Theo & Thea teas.*
