With the tablespoon chai, you can taste all the ingredients. With this, it's like a hint of hint of spice. I think I might have gotten an old batch because when I pour boiling water into my cup, hardly any color comes out of the bag. I taste the sugar and milk I add more than I taste the tea. I might start using two teabags at a time, but it makes for an expensive cup of tea.

As another reviewer noted, it was very heavy on the licorice flavor. Oddly, that was why my husband and daughter loved this tea. Even I didn't hate it; it just didn't meet my expectations for chai. I like my chai to smack of the cardamom and allspice, etc. So while we will probably drink it, it just wasn't the chai for me.

The star anise is dominant, so be sure you appreciate a liquorice flair before choosing this. I typically prefer more of a pepper emphasis in chai, but this is pleasant and feels nice for a mellow evening.

I personally got this to pair with the Hi Caf Cinnamon Toast black tea, as that one is cloying without additional spices to dilute the sweetness. All of the flavors are balanced - you get the cinnamon, anise, orange, ginger, cardamom, and clove in equal measure with a bite of black pepper at the end. I'm not really a black tea lover, so I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this when I got it as a sample, and now it's one of my favorite teas.

I've tried so many different blends of this kind of tea - was instantly a fan when my friend's Mom would make it for her daily after school - so it's something I hold dear 30+years later. When I steeped the first cup, I looked back at my order to see if I accidentally ordered a Red Tea, but this is supposedly a black tea. Definitely falls short of my expectations and the anise flavor is off-putting... not what I would expect from a traditional Chai.

It's vaguely chai-ish. the addition of star anise was a mistake in my opinion. I would recommend with reservations-depending on the friend.

Out of the various things I've tried adding to it, I most enjoy this tea with just pinch of brown sugar and a tiny bit of heavy cream. If that is not viable for you, plain is wonderful as well.

I add the Cardamom Cinnamon tea to the Republic Chai and that balances out the Republic Chai for me and takes out the bitterness from the Republic Chai on it's own. With the two teas combined it's absolutely perfect and does well as tea, iced tea, tea latte, or iced tea latte.

I steeped mine for about 8 minutes and the water in my cup was still fairly clear. I have tried many different brands of chai, and I would say that this would be a top contender. This is my first purchase from TROT after trying a sample of a different flavor that I liked a lot. The Chai taste is great, but I find the tea somewhat weak. The directions say to add 6 ounces of boiling water but I always have bigger cups than that, so I added 2 teabags to 10 ounces of water, which in theory should have been able to do 12 ounces. But it was still on the weak side for my taste. I enjoyed the flavor very much but I'm not sure I'd buy it again, as tripling tea bags for every cup would be expensive!

The color is not the rich color one would expect from a nice spicy tea. It reminds me of a weak herb tea. The only spice I could identify in the flavor was the star anise. Disappointing.

Steep it for a while, then add a splash of milk and some honey (preferably Repulic's Chai honey for extra flavor) and you have the perfect start to a cold morning. I always keep it on hand because I HAVE to have it when I have a cold or sore throat. It really helps with congestion.

I use a couple of tea bags to flavor ice tea made from plain black tea. Combining Traveler's Tea with plain black tea makes for a very refreshing ice tea blend.
