I don't really like milk since the days of having to drink a full glass of it from a plastic cup with every lunch. And I don't really like oolong teas. They honestly taste kind of rusty to me. But milk oolong is different and a real treat--smooth, flavorful, almost wholesome. It's one of my favorites, so much so I even wrote the Republic of Tea to bring it back when it was temporary unavailable.

This is my "afternoon treat" tea that I go to around 2pm. I'm not entirely sure how to describe it - it's a light tea with sort of a buttery feel to it (like, it doesn't taste like butter, but it hits my mind the same way). Anyway, if you're on the fence, try it. It's amazing.

To my dismay, they don't carry it so I went online and purchased the loose tea as well as the bags. I bought the bags so I would have a supply in my office. I am a regular green tea drinker but I am very picky. I had some milk oolong years ago and it didn't taste as good as the one from The Republic of Tea. The aroma is incredible - fruity, citrus tropical, how can this possibly just be from a tea leaf? The flavor is a little more subtle than the aroma, but matches the promised description - tropical pineapple (passionfruit too) on a milky smooth wave. Each sip like a warming breeze across the cortex.

However, one day I brewed a cup, got distracted, and ended up putting the cup of tea in the fridge, tea bag and all, to drink later. It has a very mild and sweet flavor, yes and a 'milky' smoothness that so inviting and pleasant. No bitter after taste. Not high on caffeine, so you can drink it before bed and sleep just fine. The first cup I had, I heated up water in the microwave, not boiling, but just before. Then, I put the tea bag in the water. I like my tea strong so I left the tea bag in the cup the whole time I was drinking it (took about 15 minutes for me to finish my cup of tea) and it didn't get strong like I usually like my tea, but it was perfect right before bed. Just perfect. I didn't add honey, like I like, and it didn't need it at all. The only 'complaint' I would have is that the tea didn't get strong like I usually like. However, I imagine that if it were a strong tea the sweet, smooth flavor would suffer. And I would not change that at all.

I was really surprised at how accurate the description was! It has a light tropical fruit taste (like star fruit?) combined with a light green tea taste and then a light milky after taste. It's really strange and strange that there are no added flavors or fruits, but the combination works really well together. I used to drink a lot of the double matcha green tea, but now I prefer this tea as a daily tea, esp in the mornings when I just want something close to flavored water that's easy on my stomach.
