It’s become my late afternoon into evening tea. I brew a large Zojirushi container (about 12-14 ozs) to stay hot into the evening and even the wee hours when I have insomnia. It soothes my throat that this post nasal drip caused by allergies has caused, it’s caffeine free and the milk thistle is good for my blood sugar and liver. It’s a very mild tea so I let it brew for some time. The grapefruit and orange flavors added to it are perfect.

Not only do I believe that milk thistle is beneficial for my liver (and I believe that the tea is more beneficial than supplements), it just tastes good. I don't like grapefruit, but the slight scent of grapefruit in the tea is so pleasant that I have begun to wonder if I might like grapefruit after all. My daughter says she frequently opens the tin just to sniff the tea in addition to drinking it frequently (she also has not been a fan of grapefruit, but loves the touch of grapefruit in this tea). I have other old favorites from The Republic of Tea, such as Ginger Peach, Blackberry Sage, Cinnamon Plum, and my nighttime standby Decaf Apricot, but this new tea has risen to sit beside them on my list of favorites.

However, due to some kidney and liver issues, I have become an avid tea drinker for the health benefits. I have been taking milk thistle in pill form for the last few months, but I've read that consuming it in liquid/tea form is much more beneficial. Despite some negative reviews, I gave this one a try, and I'M SO GLAD I did! I don't know how some people can say this is flavorless! Maybe they are using more water than I am? Maybe it's not as hot as the water I'm using? Maybe it's not seeping as long? Regardless, I do love this one!

To my great disappointment, the tea was nothing more than warm flavorless water. I was expecting a grapefruit aroma, but there was none, and for the rest, I could have tasted a hint of...something unrecognizable, but it was so faint that it wasn't worth noting. I thought maybe I soaked the tea bags for too little, so I left the second one for 15 minutes. It did not help. The taste was still barely distinguishable from plain warm water.

It also feels right to give your liver a healthy drink and milk thistle is good for that. I do wish it had some color, so to alleviate its pale appearance I add a bag of Beet, Ginger, Hibiscus tea by Republic of Tea to my cup and enjoy the milk thistle tea with a bit more color plus an all round healthy dose of herbs and beets.
