Cuddle with a Cuppa Chocolate Tea® this Valentine’s Day

With Valentine’s Day on the horizon, it’s time to think of what to gift your significant other on that special day.

Let’s face it. When it comes to Valentine’s Day presents, the first thing that comes to mind is a beautifully wrapped box of silky, decadent chocolates. If your sweetie happens to be a tea aficionado, our Cuppa Chocolate teas are the perfect companion to that heart-shaped box of treats. Our five rich, indulgent flavors will satisfy both chocolate and tea fans without worrying about calories. It’s the ideal drink for relaxing after a romantic Valentine’s dinner—or for any time.

While you and your beloved can enjoy any flavor of tea on Valentine’s Day, a chocolate tea just feels right for this occasion. After all, chocolates and Valentine’s Day go hand in hand. But how did this come about? Let’s explore how this extract from the humble cacao fruit became associated with the romantic holiday in the first place.

Why Chocolates on Valentine’s Day?

People have been consuming chocolate as early as 1500 BC, as it can be traced back to the ancient Olmecs, who supposedly used it as a ceremonial drink.[i] Many centuries later, the Mayans inherited the love for this beverage and drank it on a daily basis, adding flavors such as honey or chili peppers. Meanwhile, the Aztecs considered chocolate to be a gift from the gods and was mainly enjoyed by the wealthy.

Some time in the 16th century, chocolate made its way to Europe via Spain. Although there are multiple accounts of how this happened, the most likely version is that Spanish explorers learned it from the Aztecs when they arrived in South America. The new drink spread like wildfire across the continent and later towards the American colonies.

Around 1840 famed chocolatier Richard Cadbury improved his family’s chocolate-making methods, resulting in an abundance of rich cocoa butter.[ii] Instead of using the excess for drinking chocolate (standard at the time), Cadbury turned them into solid form and called them “eating chocolates”. He quickly realized the marketing potential of these bite-sized treats and packaged them in beautifully decorated boxes. It didn’t take too long before these same boxes were adorned with hearts and other familiar images synonymous with Valentine’s Day.

Get Cozy with a Cuppa Chocolate Tea

In addition to chocolate, wine or champagne is often consumed by couples on Valentine’s Day. But non-alcoholic drinks such as tea are also commonly shared by lovebirds. Although tea is often associated with spending a quiet time alone at home, you can spend special moments with your sweetheart over a freshly steeped pot of tea. For the most romantic day of the year, our Cuppa Chocolate teas are ideal for gifting to your loved one or to enjoy together.

The Cuppa Chocolate Teas® come in five tantalizing flavors: coconut, peppermint, banana, strawberry and red velvet. Each is lovingly crafted with the perfect blend of herbs and flavors to appeal to chocolate lovers who want that decadent taste but not the calories. In fact, these teas have been featured on NBC’s The Today Show as one of their “Top 10 Skinny Foods.” They have also appeared in the New York Times and on Oprah.com. Get your Valentine a tin of their favorite blend or gift them the assortment set so they can try some of the collection.

Although these teas taste like dessert in a cup, there is no added sugar. However, if you want a richer drink, then pour in some milk and make a tea latte.

This Valentine’s Day, get your chocolate-loving honey something in addition to the usual fancy box of sweet treats. Satisfy their cravings with one (or more!) of our delicious Cuppa Chocolate teas. If you steep a pot, you might find yourselves snuggling on the couch while you savor the rich, indulgent flavor!
